In Ecclesiastes 3 it says there is a time to mourn and that time is right now. You can join me in this time of mourning our beloved summer. I am a summer girl like a lot of you and when the mornings get chilly and the sun looses its intensity I find myself a little bit bummed! Trust me, I could sit around all winter and mope around but that will get me nowhere so, let’s mourn for a moment and then soak up that fall air. Local Gem & A Superfood Strawberry Smoothie.

It is officially the first day of summer and I have been waiting for this day since the last day of summer last year.. Anyways, get outside today and do something worth your while.

Sometimes in life we are given very cool opportunities to try new things, go new places and meet new people. I always love when these opportunities arise and I feel like they happen to me all the time! It’s that sense adventure and that desire to learn and know more. Recently, I had the opportunity to try something new. I have been eyeing it for awhile now and FINALLY was able to try it. As soon as I tried it, I was drying to share it with you! Finding a clean version of this ever popular junk topper was the topper on my cake.

If you haven’t skipped down to this point already, welcome and thanks for taking the time to read my rambling up there^^^. This new thing I am talking about is… maple syrup. Yep, that’s right, 100% pure, organic and delicious maple syrup. It doesn’t come in that junky “microwaveable” plastic but instead comes in a big dark glass bottle. Want to know what’s even better about it? It is made right here in Spokane, Washington! In case you didn’t know, I am a huge advocate for local for many many reasons. So, what makes this maple syrup unique? It is rum barrel aged. Don’t worry, it’s not alcoholic.


Did you know that maple syrup is more than just a sweet delicacy for your morning pancakes and waffles? It is actually a nutritional powerhouse, in moderation, of course. Zinc and manganese are two of the nutrients maple syrup boasts. Zinc is great for appetite regulation and manganese is a trace mineral that is excellent for fighting and managing diabetes (1)! YES. When compared to the old table sugar, maple syrup has a glycemic index of 54 compared to table sugar at 65. Overall, maple syrup is a wonderful alternative to table sugar and artificial sugars like sweet n’ low, splenda and high fructose corn syrup.


Murtopia Maple Strawberry Smoothie

4 oz. filtered water / nut milk
1 T. almond butter
5 frozen strawberries
3/4 frozen banana
1 t. maca powder
1 T. murtopia maple
1 T. cacao powder

*place all ingredients in your blender & blend away
*top with granola (I use this one)

This banana(less) smoothie is perfect for those of you who want a lower glycemic smoothie. You can’t even tell that it’s missing the banana though. The key is to have lots of frozen goodies and you don’t need extra banana. Don’t worry though, I am not anti-banana, I am a banana LOVER! The protein, adaptogens and greens in this smoothie are the perfect powerhouse for a healthy happy you. Be sure to tag me when you make it 🙂 I love to see your creations.


4 oz. filtered water
4 oz. kefir (coconut or raw)
1 c. frozen berries
1/2 frozen zucchini
2 c. baby spinach
1 t. maca powder*
1″ knob ginger
1 T. cashew butter
dash of sea salt
protein powder*
1 t. spirulina powder*

*indicates optionals

-blend all ingredients & go to town. i made a smoothie parfait with granola, of course.

Blueberry Protein Smoothie


Happy Wednesday guys, I dare not say hump day because.. it’s just weird to me. Anyways, I trust you are having a healthy and happy day that is filled with good company and good FOOD! The weather has been warming up here and even though the cold weather didn’t stop me, it’s smoothie time. I will be pumpin’ out lots of new smoothie recipes so be sure to send in any requests you have & I will post them!

This smoothie is the real deal guys. Seriously, it is creamy, thick, tasty and nutritious. What else could you possibly want or dream of? It has the perfect berry to vegetable ratio and you can’t even taste the veggies SO, you know what the means: kid approved yah yah! Some of the ingredients in here might leave you with some questions and I don’t want that to scare you so let me break them down for you.
Maca Powder: Maca is an adaptogenic root. This means that it helps bring your body back to balance which is super helpful in the chaotic world we live in. It’s filled with more nutrients and minerals than I want to list & that’s a good thing! It helps with fertility, PCOS, mood, energy & your sex drive. Whoops! Here is the one I love.

Blueberry Protein Smoothie

1 c. filtered water
1 T. coconut cream
1/2 c. frozen blueberries
1 frozen banana
1/2 c. frozen cauliflower
2 c. baby spinach
1 small zucchini
1 t. maca powder
1 scoop protein powder

-blend it all up
-top with cashew & cacao nibs
