Wandering Lemurian Honey & Oxymel.

Supporting local businesses is a large part of a holistic lifestyle. When we support local we are keeping money, time and resources within our community. Shipping items from around the world to meet our needs can be convenient (what?) but when we have all that we need within a 20-mile radius, why are we paying for export, shipping and unethical labor? A lot of time when we purchase items from other countries there is no telling what is in them or who made them. For food items, we could ask: “Are there heavy metals in this?”, “Was a clean water source used?” and “Are there traceable ingredients?”. For other products like clothes, household items and jewelry, we could ask: “Who made this, properly paid workers, slaves, children?” or “Were the employees treated respectfully?”. These are all questions to ask when we purchase non-local items and a huge reason why we should buy local.

Warmer weather in Spokane means farmers markets, local fairs and lots of fresh goods. Farmers markets all the best because they have organic produce, farm fresh produce and homemade items from local vendors. There are always samples and it’s like a condensed Costco… minus the junk food and long lines. Each time I make my way through a farmer’s market or a local fair I find something new. At one of the fairs, I had the pleasure of finding Wandering Lemurian Herbs. She had the most delicious herbal chai, infused honey and oxymels that weren’t straight vinegar. Guys, this chai is out of this world. It’s the perfect combination of spicy, herbal and sweet. We mixed it with cashew milk and DANG was it good. The infused honeys are something so different than I have ever tasted and I have tasted a lot of honey! There were so many different products there that I couldn’t taste them all but I’m certain she has something for everyone. Tinctures, chai, oxymel, lip balm, salves, tea and much more.

I am going to write about the oxymel and the honey today because that is what I have at home. If you are like “oxy-whutt” it basically means apple cider vinegar with honey. Don’t run away too fast! Apple cider vinegar can be one of the questionable foods and one of the many reasons I am often called a “crunchy granola” (haha). Mixed with honey, maple syrup or other fruit juices like grape or cranberry it can be quite delicious. Now, you mix it with local berries, lavender, chrysanthemum and raw local honey this is a whole new level. Not only is it tasty but it’s incredibly good for your immune system, hormones and overall health. You can mix it with water, sparkling water, {fresh} grape juice or take a shot. Whichever way you decide to enjoy it, I encourage you to taste this one!

The other product that I got was the Longevity Honey Spread. This honey is a sweet combination of Reishi Mushroom, Ashwagandha root, Maca root, cinnamon and raw local honey. Drooling? Me too, me too. You either know what these weird words are or you don’t so, let me explain. These are all nutrients that we call adaptogens. That means they will help your body to respond well to stress and bring about overall homeostasis. Reishi is good for neurological health and regeneration. Ashwagandha is an immune supporter that also energizes us. Maca is known for its ability to increase your sex drive + it also helps to fight fatigue. Honey is already delicious and with these powerhouse nutrients it’s even better. I love to eat mine with Simple Mills cookies, apples, hot tea and by the spoonful. OOPS!

Pain-free cycles, peaceful pregnancy, healthy clear skin and actually feeling warm were far off dreams for me just 3 years ago. I couldn’t even imagine having a glass of raw milk or enjoying a bowl of garden salsa (it made me bloated just thinking about it!). Worst of all, I was unsure if I’d ever get to start a family. From being passed out on the bathroom floor from the pain of rupturing ovarian cysts to a vibrant and healthy mom.
