There we go, I knew if I wrote the word shake I would get your attention. I know, I know, you’re probably thinking “isn’t this a health blog?” and the answer is: YES! This is a health blog that talks about the importance of whole-foods, clean eats & NO diets. This blog talks about my holistic lifestyle NOT my holistic diet. Why, because diets have a start and end date and lifestyles don’t. There you have it, my shpeel on the anti-diet ashlee.
This shake was inspired by Flora & Vino and you should head over to her blog now. She is rad and super fun to follow on Instagram as well (her stories are great and so is her cute pup). I – of course – had to add some greens and give you a banana free option. My belly hasn’t been handling carbohydrates so wonderfully so I have had to do lots of adapting. BUT, if your belly loves carbs, doooooo itttt. This is about you, not me. There is no “one size fits all”. I made this shake for the kids I nannied and they loved it, so it is kiddo approved. Enjoy!
Green Tahini Shake
1 cup nut milk
1 frozen banana (larger = thicker)
exchange for frozen steamed cauliflower
1 Medjool date
1 tbsp tahini
1 scoop protein powder (<< only the Just Natural one)
2 cups spinach / kale
1 tbsp cacao powder
dash of pure vanilla extract
sprinkle of Ceylon/Vietnamese cinnamon
*place all ingredients in your high-speed blender & get on it!
Medjool dates: Did you know that dates have been used for hundreds of years as a whole-foods nutritional supplement? It’s true, they are a fruit that is best when picked straight form the tree, sundried & given to you. They contain fruit sugars in the form of fructose instead of glucose. They are also high in fiber which prevents that fructose from spiking your blood sugar levels. Don’t be afraid of WHOLE-FOOD sources of sugar, just don’t eat two cups of dates at once!
