During the winter it is so easy to gravitate towards heavier heartier foods. I mean, it is the way our bodies were designed. Build in the winter, detox in the summer, that’s just the way it goes. The crazy thing is that we have changed this seasonal eating structure to one that is all about convenience. We aren’t eating warm foods because they are seasonal, we are eating warm food because we like the way it tastes, it’s easy to microwave food & we are addicted to lots of quick hot items. Let’s make a shift & feed our bodies what they need for the health of it!
During the winter we should eat foods that are going to warm up our bodies. Foods like squash, soups, stir-frys and other seasonal foods. When we eat seasonally we have a better chance at combatting colds and other icky sicknesses. Plus, we feel like we are on top of the world & get rid of all of those digestive issues. With that being said, a smoothie a day isn’t going to hurt you, as long as it balanced, seasonal & filled with real ingredients.
