Mountain Rose Herbs sent me over all the goods to make this whipped PUFA aware body butter and I couldn’t be more stoked with the recipe I created for you! It’s also important to note that “pufa free” is a buzzword and even healthy fats have a small percentage of PUFAs. It’s the high amounts we want to avoid.
Incase you’re wondering what the heck a PUFA is, it’s a fatty acid group that is highly unstable (oxidizes/goes rancid) in the presence of heat, light and oxygen. Basically, life. So, we don’t want to put products that contain these oils on our skin! Especially if we are going out in the sun.
If you’re not so much the DIY person, I highly recommend these PUFA-aware skincare products (code SIMPL10)
Common PUFA oils
- canola oil
- cottonseed oil
- rapeseed oil
- sea buckthorn
- sunflower seed oil
- safflower oil
- basically any vegetable oil
These products can cause DNA breaks, skin damage, oxidation and the list goes on. Imagine rubbing Crisco all over your body and laying out in the sun.. yeah, that’s what’s happening here!
Ever heard of “age spots” or “liver spots”? These are directly tied to PUFAs whether they are rubbed on your skin or eaten. That’s why I leave them out of this PUFA aware body butter!
PUFA-aware products I used
What I love about these products is that they come in dark amber glass bottles which prevents the blue light from penetrating and potentially damaging these precious products!
Jojoba oil is extremely hydrating. Shea butter + cacao butter is a dream team combo and the smell us just heavenly. Then, vitamin E oil directly fights against oxidation so it’s perfect for your skin. Vitamin E is used on scars, dry skin and other skin irritations because it’s so healing.

I used these for Christmas and mama gifts! This PUFA aware body butter isn’t just for mamas though. It’s so so hydrating and my husband is obsessed with it. I use it for dry lips and I put it on after every bath and shower and I got NO stretch marks!

** I ended up not adding in the avocado oil, that was from a test round (if you see it listed in the photo above)
How many ounces does this recipe make? I’d like to make get the appropriate sized metal tins.
