This hormone healing adrenal cocktail is one I get asked the recipe for almost daily over on Instagram! Why? Because it’s delicious, simple to make and filled with nutrients our hormones need to THRIVE.

What you’ll need
- organic pulp-free orange juice (i’ll explain why pulp-free below)
- organic canned coconut milk (gum-free)
- grass-fed collagen protein powder
- filtered water (hot)
- mason jar or cup of your choice
If you haven’t read my hormone balancing post a few back, now’s the time to do that. In that I talk about the fundamentals of healing your hormones and actually doing it. There are so many fad diets, quick fixes and other junk out there that simply don’t work. It’s all a bunch of noise from the wellness world, so overwhelming.
Instead, focus on what really matters. Nourishing your body with organic high quality fat, carbs and protein REGULARLY. That’s why I use this recipe for myself and my clients, daily. It’s a perfect ratio of all of those things and it’s so so easy to make. You can whip it up in minutes and you can make it ahead of time to bring on road trips, to work or wherever your adventure will bring you. Protein slows down the metabolism of carbs while fat slows down the entry of both of them into your body. Make sense?
The reason behind the pulp-free orange juice is that many women coming to work with me have really wonky digestive systems so any stress on that can make matters worse. Pulp-free ensures you aren’t having to work any harder to digest the pulp. When we chew oranges, we create and utilize enzymes that help break it down. When you drink and swallow without chewing you can run into a digestion problem. It really depends on where you stand with your gut health.
Stick with organic since organic ensures we AREN’T consuming 1000+ different chemicals and additives that are put into our food. YUCK.
The big WHY behind this adrenal cocktail is that orange juice is filled with potassium. Potassium is a commonly overlooked mineral that is a much larger player in the game than people seem to think. We need optimal potassium levels if we want a well functioning thyroid. We also MUST have potassium if we want our hormones to be balanced and our guts to function at 100%.
Potassium is a positively charged electrolyte found in every single cell in the body. Just like magnesium, it plays a crucial role in our overall health and wellness. Proper potassium levels are also essential if you want to break down and utilize carbohydrates the correct way! This drink – with the orange juice alone – gives us 10% of the “daily recommend value”. This isn’t including the minerals and other add ins!
But remember, your orange juice needs to be high quality, organic, as freshly pressed as possibly and unpasteurized if possible 🙂 Quality matters here just like with everything else in life.
- 8 oz organic orange juice
- 1/4 tsp cream of tartar no iodized salt
- sprinkle sea salt, celtic salt, real salt
- 2 tbsp coconut cream or raw cream no gums
- 1 serving grass-fed collagen protein
- splash boiling water to dissolve the protein
put your collagen + boiling water in a cup and let it dissolve
add everything else in and shake or stir
There are many different ways you can make this recipe yours but here are a few of my favorites:
- add mineral drops + boron
- add branch chain amino acids
- sprinkle some cinnamon
- add ice + banana in the summer months
- don’t forget the collagen
Organic orange juice brands I recommend
As I mentioned above, organic is important. Citrus is heavily sprayed with a slew of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and insecticides. These chemicals do not “wash off” and since citrus peels are porous, they most definitely are soaking straight into this precious fruit! There are a few brands I recommend but I always try to source locally first i.e. picking the oranges myself, finding a local juice bar to buy cold-pressed orange juice from, etc.
